Mai Stafford PhD, MSc, joined the Health Foundation in April 2018 as Principal Data Analyst. Mai is leading on a programme of work that aims to use data analytics to understand patient characteristics, the demand for health services, and health system factors that may contribute to achieving better outcomes for patients. Mai’s background is in social epidemiology and she worked at University College London for several years before joining the Health Foundation. Her academic work, all within the theme of understanding the social determinants of health, included projects on neighbourhoods and health, ethnicity and health, and social connectedness. Most recently, she led a programme on wellbeing in older age, as part of an MRC unit taking a life course approach to promote healthy ageing. She has served on NIHR commissioning boards (the Policy Research Programme and the Public Health Research Programme) and journal editorial boards.
